Karabin automatyczny AK (Автомат Калашникова образца 1947) jest bronią samoczynno-samopowtarzalną, działającą na zasadzie odprowadzenia gazów przez boczny otwór w lufie do komory gazowej, umieszczonej nad lufą. Elementem łączącym zespoły i mechanizmy karabinka jest komora zamkowa, wykonana ze stali metodą obróbki wiórowej. Wewnątrz niej znajdują się: mechanizm powrotny, opory ryglowe, mechanizm spustowo-uderzeniowy, wyrzutnik łusek oraz zespół odrzutowy. Do komory w sposób trwały jest przyłączona lufa (za pomocą gwintu), kolba stała (AK) lub składana (AKS), rękojeść typu pistoletowego i kabłąk języka spustowego z zatrzaskiem magazynka, natomiast w sposób rozłączny – magazynek i pokrywa komory zamkowej.

Broń jest niezwykle trwała, niezawodna i odporna na zabrudzenia, oraz zaniedbania eksploatacyjne. Jest też prosta w obsłudze i produkcji, przez co idealnie nadaje się do masowej produkcji i wykorzystywania nawet przez słabo wyszkolone oddziały. Do wad zalicza się dość słabą ergonomię i niewielką celność na dystansach ponad 300 metrów. Wziąwszy jednak pod uwagę, że w 85% przypadków z broni tego typu strzela się na odległości poniżej 300 metrów wada ta nie ma większego znaczenia.

Zastosowanie tu sprężyny M125 w połączeniu z zaopatrzonym w aluminiową tuleję tłokiem dało w efekcie znaczną jak na replikę szturmową prędkość wylotową rzędu 430 FPS. Wpływ na ten fakt ma również użycie w konstrukcji wzmocnionej prowadnicy sprężyny z łożyskowaniem.

Ze względu na swe rozmiary, replika nadaje się świetnie do starć na średnim dystansie, zaś długa lufa wewnętrzna w połączeniu ze sporą prędkością wylotową zapewniają znaczne skupienie i precyzję strzału przy wymianie ognia.
